Birth

Jesse was born in Hanborough, Oxfordshire in 1846.^[1] He was the son of William Woodward and Ann Hedges. His baptism took place at the Wesleyan Chapel in Witney, Oxfordshire on 8th November 1846. On the register they recorded that he was born on 17th October that same year.^[2]

Marriage

Jesse Woodward and Mary Creek were married after banns in Wootton, Oxfordshire on 27th June 1874.^[3] They were bachelor and spinster and both living in Old Woodstock at the time. Jesse was 27, a labourer and the son of William Woodward who was also a labourer. Mary was 26 and gave no details of her father. Mary signed her own name on the register whilst Jesse could only make his mark with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were Moses Creek and Elizabeth Freeman.^[4]

Death

Jesse died in 1902 at the age of 57.^[10] He was buried in Bladon, Oxfordshire on 21st May 1902.^[11] The register notes that he died at Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford.
