Gabriel was born in 1855 in Hanborough, Oxfordshire. [1] He was the son of William Woodward and Anne Hedges. His baptism took place at the Wesleyan Chapel in Witney, Oxfordshire on 9th September 1855 and his birth date was recorded on the register as 7th July that same year.[2]
Marriage
Gabriel Woodward and Hannah Culham Danbury were married after banns in Bladon, Oxfordshire on 2nd November 1878.[3] They were bachelor and spinster and both of full age. Gabriel was a gardener living in Holmwood and the son of William Woodward who was a woodman. Hannah was living in Bladon and the daughter of Joseph Danbury who was a mason. They each signed their own name on the register and the witnesses to the marriage were Joseph Danbury and Clara Louisa Danbury.[4]
Ministry
Gabriel was appointed evangelist of Park Gate and worked there for 13 years. In 1900 he took charge of the work at Forest Green and Ewhurst.[5]

Death
Gabriel died on 25th December 1937 at the Royal Surrey County Hospital Farnham Road, Guildford.[12]
Probate was granted to Ralph John Woodward congregational minister and John Cecil Gould photographer in 1938 and his effects were valued at £1,409 15s. 1d. Probate also states his date of death and that his usual address was The Haven, Parkhurst Road, Guildford.[13]
Obituary
The West Sussex Gazette carried a short article on his death. Gabriel was described as one of the best known village evangelists working in Surrey Villages. He had been an evangelist for over 60 years and remained active in the village churches of the Guildford Congregational Church after his retirement in 1925.[14]
