George Woodward was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Biography

George Woodward (1549-1598) was the son of John Woodward and Margaret Bulstrode da. of George Bulstrode of Hedgerley Bulstrode. He m. (1) Katherine Woodford, da. of Thomas Woodford of Britwell, 3s. and (2) Elizabeth Honywood, da. of Robert Honywood of Charing, Kent and Markshall, Essex, 3s. dvp 9d.

He was Clerk of the works and steward of honour of Windsor Castle from July 1579. He was a MP for New Windsor 1586, as virtue of his office at the castle. Will made 3 Jan 1598, buried at Upton 30 Jan 1598.

In his last will and testament, which was probated 26 May 1598, George named his wife, Elizabeth, and the following children: Elizabeth; Anne; Thomas; John; Sarah; Bridget; Margaret; Rebecca; Martha; Rachel; Robert; and Edward. Edward received the bulk of the estate.[8]

In his will, made 3 Jan. 1598, he renounced all other means of salvation save Christ, expressed confidence that he would be received into ‘the glory of eternal life’, and asked to be buried ‘without pomp’. His wealth still lay in the woods which had given his family its name. He instructed three trustees, of whom his brother-in-law Michael Heneage was one, to have 16 acres of trees felled in each of the 18 years following his death and to allocate the annual profits to his children, each in turn.[9]

His remains were buried at Upton 30 Jan. 1598.[10]

George Woodward, Esq. died at of Marbeshall, Essex, England. He married Elizabeth Honywood, daughter of Robert Honywood, Esq. and Mary Atwater. (Woodward Pedigree)

The following is a transcript of the pages of the diary which refer to George Woodward. I also have the Honywood pages which give the families of Elizabeth's brothers and sisters, if they are of interest. We are descended from the first wife of George. He was a fairly prolific breeder. The diary is a little parchment notebook bound with ribbon and is quite a treasure as each succeeding generation added to it till the early 1800's.
