James was born February 1, 1761 at West Bradford Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.[1][2] He was a son of Joseph Woodward and Rebecca Martin.[2][1]
Family
James married in 1801 to Sarah Cloud, daughter of Mordecai and Jane (Musgrave) Cloud of East Bradford.[1] The family lived in Marshalton, Chester County, Pennsylvania in "an old stone house" on part of James' father's plantation.[1] Soon after their marriage, James and Sarah removed to Huntington County, Pennsylvania where Sarah died.[2] By 1810, James had returned to Chester County.[2]

James was a Quaker, and probably a member of the [Bradford Friends Meetinghouse Marshalton or Bradford Friends Meeting].
Death and Legacy
James died April 21, 1841 at Marshalton, Chester County, Pennsylvania.[1][2] He was buried at the Bradford Meeting.[2]
