Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch John relocated along with his son Hardy to Hancock Co., GA in either 1793 or 1794. It is known that John Wooten joined the GA militia in sometime prior to May 1 1794 considering John's death on that date in GA is well documented. The story of John Wooten's death according to History of GA Militia 1783-1861 v. 1 pg 88 is as follows;"On May 1, 1794, Captain McKenzie of Lt. Col Runnels Hanncock Co., GA regiment held muster at Ft. Wilkenson to draft men for frontier service. As it happened the muster ground was only 2 miles from Ft. Wilkenson and about 25 of the federal troops at the fort came over to the muster ground to watch the activity. A fight broke out in which a federal soldier struck Major John Wooten in the head killing him."The information can also be found in the Historical Collections, Joseph Habersham Chapter DAR, vol. i, pgs. 6 and 7 except that that reference show John Wooten to be the wife of Mary Sims.
