Biography

Disputed Origins

A different James Wooten was born circa 1770 in North Carolina to William (ca. 1750-1793) of Rowan and Halifax County and Frances Bradford, but he died in 1810; therefore, he could not be the same James Wooten as this profile, because this James and his wife Elizabeth were still alive in 1850, besides the fact that he is able to be documented in Edgecombe and then Halifax County, not Sampson County, North Carolina.

Family of Consent

James had at least one son and daughter with Elizabeth Tew. He and his wife lived until at least 1850 in Sampson, North Carolina.[1]

Research Notes

  • Additional census years between 1800 and 1840 for Sampson County, James Wooten might have some value once the age range data counts are extracted from the tabulation columns. They are attached on his AFN LHSC-ZV1 at FamilySearch.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

This James Wooten, d. aft. 1850, Sampson Co., NC, is not the son of William Wooten and Frances Bradford. The James Wooten who was the son of William Wooten and Frances Bradford died in 1810, Halifax Co., NC; he named his mother in his will.
