Biography
Mary was born in 1813. Mary Wooten ... She passed away in 1896. [1]
She married Ambrose MULLIES in Surry Co. N. C. in 1830; they were in adjoining Wilkes Co. in 1860 and in 1870 in Butler Co. Ks. as MULLIES, next door was daughter Carsella Marlow. In 1900 Carsella was on the census of Pleasanton, in Linn Co. Ks., a neighbor was Jane Mullis of another Mullis family which came west in 1882 to join Ambrose's cousin, Jesse Mullies in Bates Co. The point of this is, those Mullis families kept in touch over many decades; also, some family members signed their name Mullies while others used Mullis. Those two forms were interchangeable in a family residing in Michaelstow parish, Cornwall Co. England since 1585, the original Mullis immigrant in colonial Virginia in 1658 was of that family.
