Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company D, 74th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on October 14, 1861. He was then promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, and transferred to Company G on February 10, 1863. he served until he resigned on May 21, 1863.

He became a Presbyterian Minister after the war, and served 38 years on the Presbyterian Board of Publication.
