Biography

Source 1: I would like to know more about Simeon and Nathan Wilcox who were the sons of Mary Brown Wilcox Worden. I believe their father died in the Revolutionary War. Mary then married Gilbert Worden and had five or more children: Amy, Betsey, Gilbert, David, and Mary. At various times, they could have possibly been in Rensselaer County, Otsego County, and Independence, Allegany County.

Source 2:

  • Mary Brown Worden married first Mr. Wilcox, who lost his life during the Revolutionary War. She had two sons by this marriage, Nathan and Simeon. She married second Gilbert Worden. They resided in Petersburgh, NY and had five or more children: Amy, Betsey, Gilbert, David, and Mary Worden.

That little paragraph led me to find my David Worden’s parents after ten years worth of research!

Source 3: I am searching for information about a Gilbert Worden who was born in NY about 1755 and died 20 May 1837. He lived in Rensselaer County and possibly Otsego for a few years. He served in the New York Militia. Gilbert married Mary Brown Wilcox sometime during the Revolutionary War after her husband, Nathan Wilcox Sr., was killed. She and Nathan Sr. had two sons, Nathan and Simeon. Gilbert and Mary had at least five children: Amy, Betsey, Gilbert, David and Mary.

Source 4: 1810 Federal Census - Otsego County, New York, page 122, line 31 G. Worden is shown. Data: males: 1,0,0,0,1 females: 0,1,1,0,1 meaning Gilbert Worden > 45, wife Mary Brown > 45, one son less than 10, 2 daughters.

Source 5: On page 088a, line 19 rather close to the 173 comment in the left column, you can use magnify but only small and large. Hopefully that's large enough to see, if not go get your magnifying glass.

A Gilbert Worden with data 0,0,1,1,0,1, 0,0,0,0,0,1 is shown: meaning one son 16-18, one son 16-26, Gilbert age 64, one female > 45, ie Mary, age 65. The son in column 16-18 is also the same son as the one in column 16-26, so Gilbert David Worden counts in both columns, as one person.
