Biography

Richard Levi Worden born: December 11, 1934 - died: April 10, 2010

Beloved by all who knew him, Richard Levi Worden passed away at his home on April 10, 2010. His once excellent health began failing several months ago. One of nine children born to Hubert and Avis Gillette Worden, Richard and his twin Roland Edgar were born in Franklin on December 11, 1934.

Richard graduated high school in Franklin and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958, starting with basic training at Samson Air Force Base. On October 21, 1961 he was united in marriage to Carol M. Pierce, in Franklin by Andrew Burton.

In addition to being a member of the Oneonta Lions Club, Dick enjoyed serving in the retail business. This included Briggs Lumber 1961-1971; Agway 1971-1983; and Pickett Building materials 1983-1999, with continued part time there until February of this year. He knew everything about building. He enjoyed his home that he built, mowing the lawn and gardening and helping his son, Jeff with the inside work of his home. He also enjoyed dancing, you could find him “cruising” around the outside of the dance floor. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Joshua. Joshua was his pride and joy, they had a very ‘special bond’ together.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carol; their son Jeffrey and his wife Kimberly and his grandson, Joshua; his brothers, Paul and Joyce of Franklin, Lee and Shirley of Guilford and Wayne and Carolyn of Franklin; and brother in law, Ralph “Rusty” Hoffman of Walton.. He also leaves Carol’s siblings; Arlene Knapp of Fly Creek, Thomas and Sandy Pierce of Lantana, FL, Charles Pierce and Mamie Gohde of Otego, David and Judy Pierce of Milford; sister in law, Emily Pierce; a special aunt, Jessie Mondore of Lafayette and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Frances Hall, Jane Hoffman, Cecil Worden, Sue Ellen Worden, and his twin Roland; his brother in laws, Paul Pierce and ‘best buddy’ Frederick Knapp and his mother in law, Lottie Pierce Merwin.

Family will receive friends at the Oneonta Assembly of God Church, 1667 County Highway 48 on Saturday, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
