Research Notes

for Richmond Worden (1758-1832)
From: Marva Rydlach - matya@@rydalch.org
He was not listed on the FGRA sheet nor in "Anc. and Desc. of Wm. Curtis...". His birth is in Arnold's "Vital Records of Rhode Island", vol. 1, Coventry, pg 96. An article by Gilbert S. Bahn, in "Wordens Past", Vol. XIII of Nov. 1992, pg 890, names two sons who do not appear on the FGRA sheet of Peter Worden and Mary Moon, one of which is Richmond, who also does not appear in Mrs. Steele's book. The article quotes records that show he served in the Revolutionary War. An earlier article by Mr. Bahn, in Vol III, pg 86, says he served with the Green Mountain Boys during the Revolution, in several enlistments, at which time his home was sometimes at Cheshire, Mass, (later called Adams) and otherwise at Shaftsbury, VT. .... Richmond may be found in the 1790 census at Adams, with one male under 16 and five females."
A later article, in vol. XV pg 1032-1035, showed his age was 11 in 1770 (which the author calculated from the 1790 U.S. census) and says he died after 1830, (age 71?). Another article, vol. XIX pg 1495, says he lived at Shaftsbury, Vermont 1780-1782, Cheshire, Mass, 1782-1795, Schuyler, Herkimer Co., NEw York, 1795-1808, Brutus, Cayuga Co., 1808-1821 and Oswego, Oswego Co., 1821-1832 (date of pension application). It says a deed recorded at Schuyler 19 Mar 1807 identifies the name of his wife as Orinda (Liber 3, page 34). The marriage is not found in "Early Massachusetts Marriages".
A family group from Doris L. Moon says her name was Orinda Lippett, no source cited. The article cited above indicates his first son was probably Welcome and he probably had twins Lyman and Lippett. Another son Schuyler, who the author says is the only one proven to Richmond, plus five or six daughters about which the author knew nothing.
