Biography

According to Joseph Watkins Worden, Nathaniel was long married to Sarah Husted. They had nine children (actually they had eleven children). A tradition holds that Nathaniel practiced medicine in Connecticut until he went blind and then went to New York where he died in 1807.[1]
In 1748, Nathaniel turning 15, which provided him new then-legal rights of mature choice, chose Jonathan Hebbard to be his legal guardian. [2] This state record makes the year engraved on his tombstone (1735)[3]likely incorrect.
On June 08, 1759 in Dutchess Co, New York, Nathaniel III and his two brothers, Andrew and Demeas, sold a small portion of land they had received from the estate of their maternal grandparent Joseph Marshall and received 10 pounds apiece.
When he moved into the town of Pawling, New York, it was a wilderness. The nearest wagon road was about two miles from where he started his house. He helped develop the town and was counted in the first census there.[4]
