HISTORY OF CHARLES JARED WORDEN -- Our ancestor Charles was born on February 02, 1851 in on his father's farm, situated between Pawling and Holmes, Dutchess County, New York and died on January 17, 1913 in Weldon, Franklin Township, Decatur County, Iowa. He was the ancestor of many descendants, some still living in the county, others in Nebraska and elsewhere.

In the spring of 1856, when Charles was 5 years old, he moved out to Iowa with his family. On March 16, 1877 he married Anna Eliza Piburn at the farm home of her father, William R. Piburn, in Harrison County, Missouri.

Charles and his family moved to Lincoln County, Kansas by the next year, 1878. He moved back to Iowa shortly after 1885 (death of infant son David) and before 1888 (birth of son Elbert). He spent the rest of his life in Iowa near Weldon. He farmed all his life. Eventually, Charles and Anna took care of his father-in-law when Mr. Piburn became aged. Charles was about five foot seven inches tall, with black hair. He was a very handsome man and in his old age sported a long full flowing beard.

Obituary of Charles Jared Worden: "Charles J. Worden, son of Jared N. and Maria T. Worden, was born in Dutchess County, New York, February 2nd, 1851, where he lived until 5 years of age. In the spring of 1856, his parents came to Iowa and settled on a farm 2 miles south of Weldon, later occupied by Silas Worden. Charles was one of eleven children, six of whom are still living. They are Husted, Edward, Cornelius, Amanda Manchester, Mary Trisler, Rosella Priest. The dead are Joseph, Silas, Emaline, Daniel and Phoebe.

On March 19th, 1877, Mr. Worden was married to Anna Eliza Piburn. To them were born eight children, who are Hattie, Lissie, Arthur, Numan, David, Elbert, Lottie and Harvey. David died August 18th, 1885, while the parents were still living in Kansas.

Mr. and Mrs. Worden began their wedded life about 3 mile southwest of Weldon in a log cabin that stood near where W. A. Machlan now lives, the second year they moved to Kansas where they remained until the year 1888 when they returned to Iowa, and moved onto a farm four miles south of Weldon which has since then been their home.

Charles J. Worden died January 17, 1913 at the age of 61 years, 11 months and 15 days. His death was due to a weak heart and an attack of pneumonia that lasted only a few days. Thus the third one of the Worden brothers has departed this life in the past 15 months. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday, January 19, by the Reverend George Mitchell, of Weldon, and the body laid to rest in Johnson Cemetery, two miles east of the Fairview Church."

Charles is buried in Row 6, Stone 2 (or row 2) in Metier Cemetery, Garden Grove, Decatur County,
