He was born April 8, 1799, in Alleganey county, Maryland, and was taken by his parents about 1809, to Bourbon county, Ky. He was married March 23, 1819, in Overton county, Tennessee, to Sarah Bilyeu. She was born Nov. 26, 1801, in Green county, Kentucky. They had four children in Tennessee, and moved to Sangamon county, Illinois, arriving Oct. 1, 1829, in what is now Loami township, south of Lick creek, where seven children were born, two of whom died young.
