Both listed sources only reference his daughter Alice. She is named as his heiress, which seems a bit odd if he had a son?

No idea, John had 2 sons & 2 daughters, Heiress Alice was 2nd daughter (1st son unknown when he died or if had children, 2nd son was younger than Alice and had a son born at Watton Manor). If 1st daughter left the Manor to be with her husband(s), and 1st son died or left, Alice was next eldest.

Thanks, Russ. Is there a source for this history? It should be cited if so.

I have no further information or additional sources. I'm going from what I see now on these profiles, there were duplicate profiles merged back in 2017.

Thanks, Russ. Joan is one of my ancestors, but I'm going to note her with uncertain parents in my personal tree. I think if we can't find a source naming Joan and John as the children of these parents, they should probably be marked as uncertain. Joan at least, because right now, it says she was born two years before her mother, and thirty years before her siblings, which just can't be right unless John had an earlier wife.

Yeah 4 years ago, I merged duplicate profiles and compiled the info from the related profiles, so I cannot really speak to what others previously contributed. The birth years for daughter Joan and wife Engaret (Dymoke) Wotton definitely need to be sourced and proven, and their profiles will be on the Data Doctors error report since they conflict.

Sounds good. I doubt there were any more sources before the merge, because I checked the rest of the family (parents, children, grandparents) and there's nothing in any of them to back up the connection to Joan either. Could you please do the uncertain parentage marker? I would, but I don't have my pre-1500 certification yet.

Sure, I changed daughter Joan's mother status to: uncertain. At this time, we can keep father status as is, since there's no certain data conflict. Thanks for reaching out Ashley!

The linked son, John, is shown as having a son.

I have this noted in my comment above. I don't have any additional insight into the heir/heiress situation.

Wotton-367 and Wotton-83 appear to represent the same person because: compared, it is the same person
