In 1857, Charles F. Wright was sent to Winnebago County, Illinois as a circuit pastor for the Methodist Episcopal Church.
The M. E. church in Rockton, Illinois began as a class in 1855, with preaching services once in two weeks at two o'clock in the afternoon in the stone school house, by Rev. J. P. Vance, of the Koscoe Methodist church.
This class with others were organized into a church in 1856, by Rev. Holland Richardson. The church building was commenced in 1857, Rev. C. F. Wright, pastor and the building was erected and enclosed and remained in that condition until 1859, when it was completed.
In the Methodist church, each smaller church paid an annual "apportionment" to the district church. In 1856, the treasurers report for the Rock River Conference, reported that the Kingston Circuit, paid their apportionment as "$80 less $1 worthless, by Rev C.F. Wright" and gave them credit for $79.
On July 15, 1857, Reverend Charles F. Wright married Amelia Carter, daughter of Ashbel Carter and Penelope "Nellie" (Cronk) Carter.
