Biography

Moses Wright was born about 1744 and died about 1799. He married Elizabeth Whitehead Wright November 1775 in Amherst County, Virginia.

Military Service

Moses Wright was a Revolutionary War soldier, enlisting in Capt. James Franklin's company of "foot" 10th Va. Regt., later in Capt. John Steed's company. (See Vol. LXXIX DAR Lineage Records, 1926, numbers 47,092 58,772 an d 78,542.) Moses Wright enlisted January 23, 1777, for three years, as a priva te in Captain James Franklin's Company of Foot 10th Virginia Regiment, Revolutionary War. This regiment became the 6th Regiment about September 1778, and was known as such to December, 1779. His name appears as Moses Right, on the muster roll for the month of January 1780, of Captain John Steed's Comp any in a detachment of the 2nd Virginia Brigade, commanded by Colonel Febiger . This roll is dated January 28, 1780, and bears the remark "Expiration of service, February 29, 17--."

His name last appears on the company roll for December, 1779, and January, February, and March 1780.

See Elizabeth Wright's widow's pension claim W6591, National Archives. The first three children's names came from the claim. This Moses was the son of Elizabeth and Benjamin Wright (died 1799). John C. Whitehead, J.P. took the details of the pension claim from Elizabeth in August 1843. Other sources used in this compilation were: DEEDS OF AMHERST AND ALBEMARLE COUNTIES, VIRGINIA, COURTHOUSE MINIATURES, both by Bailey Fulton Davis; also marriage records and wills of Amherst County.
