Biography

Sallie was Cherokee.

Sallie Wiright was born about 1793 in the Cherokee Nation, the daughter of Jennie Crittenden, a Cherokee and Jack Wright a white man. She married Moses Alberty, a white man, about 1810. [1] Moses took a reservation of land "in right of his wife" at Hightower under the Treaty of 1817. [2] They were the parents of nine children, Nancy, Levi, Delilah, John, Amelia, David (died young), William, Jacob, and Bluford. [3] Moses signed up their family of nine to emigrate west in 1828. Daughter Nancy was already married and she and her husband also emigrated. [4] Sallie died June 18, 1830 in the Flint District, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, not long after the family arrived.
