Billy Joe Wright, age 82, died Sunday, July 7, 2013, in Amarillo, Texas.

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Rev. Jay Jones, pastor officiating. Burial followed in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery in Clayton, New Mexico by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.

Billy Joe Wright was born on May 18, 1931 in Dalhart, Texas to Hartsel Wright and Donna Irene (Clifton) Wright. He graduated from Clayton High School and was drafted into the US Army where he served during the Korean War. After returning to Clayton, Billy Joe married Carolyn Lorice (Osborn) Wright on September 19, 1954 in Logan, New Mexico and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2011. A lifelong resident of Union County, Billy Joe ranched most of his life. He also owned a truck and hauled cattle for several years before becoming an Auctioneer. Billy Joe was an auctioneer for the Five States Livestock Auction for many years and was also part owner for ten years. He also traveled and auctioned for many other sales throughout the five state area. In addition to his wife and parents, Billy Joe was preceded in death by a son; Billy Craig Wright on June 26, 1982 and by his brother, Jerry Don Wright.

1 DAUGHTER: Shannon Durbin and her husband Paul of Clayton, New Mexico.

1 SON: Gary Lee Wright and his wife Thelma of Seneca, New Mexico.

4 GRANDCHILDREN: Casey Wright of Houston, Texas, Shawna Beckner and her husband Kory, Josh Durbin and Matt Durbin all of Clayton, New Mexico.

1 GREAT-GRANDCHILD: Kollin Beckner of Clayton, New Mexico.

1 SISTER: Janet Dillon of Clayton, New Mexico.
