Sir Henry Wright 1st Bt was the son of Laurence Wright (1590-1657), the third son of John Wright of Wright's Bridge near Hornchurch, Essex and Mary Duke (d. 16 Feb 1698), da. of John Duke, MD, of Foulton Hall. He m. Anne Crew, da. of John Crew, 1st Baron Crew of Stene. He was created Baronet Wright, of Dagenhams by Cromwell in 1658, which was confirmed 11 June 1660. He had a son and heir Henry who d. unm in 1681 and a da. Anne who m. (1) Sir Robert Pye of Berkshire and (2) William Rider.

Sir Henry Wright is mentioned by [Pepys] in his diaries 16 times. On 10 December 1663, “…calling at Wotton’s, my shoemaker’s, today, he tells me that Sir H. Wright is dying”.
