He lived in Brook Hall, called the Moat House, on Brook street, in South Weald. and is buried in the churchyard of that place.

The Will of Robert Wright of Brook Street Arch : Essex Register Draper Folio 149.

In the name of God Amen ; 17 January 1587.

I, Robert Wright of Brook Streate in the parish of South Wealde in the County of Essex, yeoman, whole of mind, etc. Doe make my last will, etc. Soul to God and body to be buried within the par- ish church of South Wealde. To Mary, my wife, all my lands and goods, for her natural life, and after her decease my son John Wright shall enter in and upon the same and I appoint my said son to be Executor, (No witnesses named.)

Proved February 22d, 1587, by John Wright (Act Book 3, folio k).

Research Notes

ROBERT WRIGHT, son of John and Olive Wright.. Married Mary, daughter of Robert Green of Navestock, Essex.He lived at Brook Hall (the Moat House), Brook St., South Weald.He died January 25th 1587 and was buried in South Weald Church. Children:

  1. John Wright, dsp
  2. Robert Wright, baptized June 30th, 1542; died young.
  3. Katherine Wright, baptized march 20th, 1544. Married William Kent, Nov. 28th, 1565.[p22]
  4. Olive Wright, married Richard Thresher, Oct. 19th, 1563.
  5. Dorothy Wright, married John Hatch, May 28th, 1566.
  6. Thomas Wright of Brook Hall (the Moat House) m. Roberdye Pake

The Moat House was possibly a hotel and was later named Brook Hall and may have been connected witht he manor of Ropers. He was not the Lord of the Manor - he was a Yeoman by his own Will. John Heming died in 1643 holding the manor of Brook Street or Ropers.[1]

This paragraph is incorrect: " Robert was of Brook Hall (Moat House) Parish of South Weald Lord of the Manor of Great Little Ropers, Also a member of Henry III's House of Lords Taken from a will dated Jan 17,1587 and proved Feb 22,1587 "
