Biography

Based on his (assumed first) marriage in 1619 in Assignton, Suffolk, England,[1] John Wyatt was most likely born by about 1594, presumably in Assington, but no documentation of his birth date or place has yet been located.

Immigration

John Wyatt was in Ipswich no later than 1635, as in that year land was granted to Thomas Wells which abutted "on the South West the land of John Wyatt," which was recorded in "the Town Book folio 4" and apparently again "[e]ntered the first day of June 1638."[2] (See also Anderson's work, p. 545.[3])

Marriages and Children

John married at least twice, with his first known marriage to Martha Sheldrake on 28 Sep 1619 in Assington, Suffolk,[4] and his second known marriage to Mary (Unknown) Riddlesdale on 27 Jun 1632, also in Assington, Suffolk.[5] He is not known to have had any biological children in either of these marriages, yet in his will he names three "daughters," Mary, Sarah, Dorcas, and a grandson, John Kimball.[6] It is presumed that these were actually his stepchildren, biological children of his second wife, Mary (Unknown) Riddlesdale:

Death and Probate

John died sometime between the writing of his will, dated 17 October 1665, and the date the inventory was taken on 26 December 1665; his will was subsequently proved 15 January 1665/6.[7]

Thanks Jason. I went ahead and added the source into the "See also" section, but I used a HathiTrust link instead.

This profile has a 2nd spouse which needs attaching: Mary (Unknown) widow Riddlesdale. See Mary Jackson ref. Torry's, pg.844.

John Wyatt m. second 2nd Mary (Unknown) Riddlesdale (her 2nd m to Wyatt). This profile should be attached to spouse Mary Unknown-360600 who is currently in a merge with duplicate Jackson-3514 (Jackson-3514 is correctly attached to Edward Riddlesdale but Unknown-360600 is not) with the final merge outcome being Mary Unknown-360600. Her merged profile name will read: Mary (Unknown) Riddlesdale Wyatt Barker (Barker being her 3rd and final m.)

Jackson-3514 and Unknown-360600 appear to represent the same person because: This is a somewhat complex merge. Mary's LNAB should be Unknown which is correctly reflected in profile Unknown-360600. Her dupe profile LNAB of Jackson is speculative and unsubstantiated. See Torry's, pg. 844 which documents the marriage to John Wyatt. To recap: Mary (Unknown) married 1st. abt 1619, Assington, Suffolk, Eng. Edward Riddlesdale who d. 1631 [NEHGR 143:217-220 this write-up includes Mary's next 2 marriages to John Wyatt and James Barker]. She m. 2nd John Wyatt and that union is discussed in NEHGR 143:213-220. John Wyatt d. and she m. 3rd. James Barker on 22 May 1666, Rowley, Mass. which is documented in the Rowley VRs.
