This is the profile for Mary Wyne, who married Edmond Coper at Arlesey, Bedfordshire on 14 Aug 1564.
Mary's date of birth is uncertain. Based on her date of marriage (1564) and her husband's date of baptism (December 1642) , Mary was probably born sometime in 1542-1546, with about 1544 being a reasonable midpoint estimate.
Mary's parentage is unknown.
Some online genealogy pages claim that Mary Wyne was the daughter of Maurice Wynne and Sîan (Jane) Bulkeley of Carnarvon, Wales. The evidence suggests, however, that that proposition is extremely unlikely. The proposition is weakly supported by (1) the fact that Mary's last name, as spelled in the record of her marriage, is similar to that of Maurice Wynne's and (2) the fact that her estimated date of birth makes it possible that she could have been a daughter of Maurice Wynne. A number of other facts, however, combine to strongly suggest that she was not the daughter of Maurice Wynne, including (1) the fact that, as indicated in Maurice Wynne's profile, no reliable source suggests that he had a daughter named Mary, (2) the fact that Maurice Wynne was a prominent Welsh aristocrat, while Edmond Cooper was a younger son of a Bedfordshire yeoman[1] and thus clearly not an appropriate match for one of Maurice's daughters, (3) the fact that Maurice Wynne lived in Carnarvon, Wales, while Mary's marriage occurred in Arlesey, Bedfordshire, about 230 miles away and almost on the other side of the island of Great Britain, (4) the fact that as indicated in Maurice Wynne's profile, his eldest son was born about 1553, suggesting that it is unlikely that Maurice had a daughter who was born about 1544, and (5) the fact that there is no evidence whatsoever connecting Mary Wyne to Maurice Wynne.
Vastly more likely is that Mary was related to the families in Baldock, Hertfordshire (just 5 miles southeast of Arlesey) and Kelshall, Hertfordshire (just 11 miles east of Arlesey) whose surnames were variously spelled in records in 1540-1580 as Wynn, Wynne or Wynd.
Based on the fact that Mary was married in Arlesey, Bedfordshire, she was probably born within a dozen or so miles of Arlesey.
Mary married Edmond Coper at Arlesey, Bedfordshire on 14 Aug 1564.[2][3][4]
Mary's husband Edmond Cooper had been bequeathed land in Henlow, Bedfordshire in his father's will proved in 1556,[1] so it is likely that Edmond was already living there at the time of his marriage and that the couple settled there after their marriage. Records in the Henlow parish register generally spell the family surname as "Cowper."
Edmund and Mary had the following children, all baptized at Henlow:
Mary Cooper was buried at Henlow, Bedfordshire, on 22 May 1598.[13][4]
