Biography

Sir John Wynn, 1st Baronet (1553 – 1 March 1627), was a Welsh baronet, Member of Parliament and antiquary.[1]

John was born in 1553 at Gwydir Castle, Caernarvonshire, Wales. He was a son of Morys (Morris) Wynn ap John, who he succeeded in 1580, inheriting Gwydir Castle in Carnarvonshire.[2]

He married Sydney, the daughter of William Gerard, and had 10 sons and 2 daughters. His successor was his second and eldest surviving son Richard.

Wynn made his will 28 Feb. and died 1 Mar. 1627, although according to John Wynn, the author of The History of the Gwydir Family ... John probably died on March 3, 1626.[3]. He was buried in Llanrwst church. His eldest son having predeceased him, the will was proved, on 5 Dec., by his second son Richard. The estate afterwards passed to a third son who resumed the parliamentary predominance of Gwydir in Caernarvonshire, but with the death of this man’s son in 1674 the direct male line came to an end.[4]

Uncertainty About Progeny in Virginia

Although Sir John Wynn had twelve children, ten of whom were sons, his the direct male line ended with his grandson Sir John Wynn, who died in 1719 without issue.[5] None of his children or grandchildren have been shown to have ever lived in Virginia.[5] Despite various accounts which place some of his sons in Virginia in the early 17th Century, none of these stories have ever been proven.[5]

Of the several Wynn/Winn/Gwynn men who did immigrate to Virginia, none of them have ever been proved to be connected with the family of Sir John Wynn.[5]

Other

1624 Letter William Lewis Anwill to Sir John Wynn at Gwydir. The sessions begin on August 2, and the writer is destitute of venison, for this country does not afford any store of fat venison. He, therefore, begs Sir John to spare some out of his well-stocked park.[6]

nb: I've been removing the relationships to Queen Elizabeth II since it's obv. easy to find in the connection finder and 11xggf is very distant and more of a trivial fact.

Wynn-397 and Wynn-184 appear to represent the same person because: As these 2 profiles appear to represent the same person, perhaps you might be prepared to consider merging Wynn-397 into Wynn-184

Wynn-397's place of birth seems in correct as Sir John Wynn 1st Bt was born in Gwydir Caernarfonshire
