Hi Anne,

Thanks for your contributions to Puritan Great Migration (PGM) project profiles.

Like all WikiTree projects we check in with team members periodically to find out about their continued interest in the project. Would you please respond by February 12, 2024, to let us know about your interest:

1. Would you like to continue as a PGM project team member?;

2. Do you have any suggestions for PGM Project priorities in the next year (optional)?;

3. Do you have interest in taking a more active role within the PGM project, and if so, what you might be interested in doing (optional)?

Please respond to this comment on your profile, or if you'd like, send a private message to either Bobbie (Madison) Hall or S (Hill) Willson.

Thanks for all you do for PGM and WikiTree!

Regards,

Bobbie and Sharon, Co-Leaders, Puritan Great Migration Project

Thank you. I continue to be interested in the Puritan Great Migration team, specifically because of my forebear Charles Chauncy.

I have no suggestions around priorites and have no capacity at present to become more involved in this project.

Regards Anne

Thanks very much, Anne. We are happy to have you stay on as a PGM member.

Hi Anne

Note that it is a requirement to respond to the Military and War Project Check-ins. Please respond to this message by clicking the reply button below this message, to post your answer. I look forward to hearing from you..

Thanks Mary - yes I have been active on Military profiles. Just last week I connected two Australians (unrelated to me) who were involved in the Great Escape. This was in response to a post concerning the 80th Anniversary of "The Great Escape". I am also working on connecting others involved but slow progress.
Anne I am in the Committee of the Bomber Command Assn in Aust, our President's father was in Hut 105. I would be happy to put you on our Complimentary Mailing list

Thank you for participating in past Thons as a member of the Toddlin' Tortoises. If you decide to participate again in January's upcoming Connect a Thon, the registration this time will be somewhat different. (You can read about it here.) We would love to have you join us again, but whatever team you decide to join will be lucky to have you!

Hi Anne,

We're contacting you for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve Australian profiles on WikiTree.

Please could you reply to this message, or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if you'd like to make any changes to the teams that you belong to. The teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.

If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.

Over the past year, Australia Project members have been more active on Discord. We're finding it a fun way to communicate as a project. As you are already a member of the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located, we hope you'll join the chat! It's a great way to communicate with other members on your project team/s, or for any general questions.

We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

The Australia Project Leadership Team ~ Gillian, Margaret and Veronica

Thank you. I am delighted to continue to be part of the Australia project.

Regards Anne

Thank you for responding to the check-in message, and for your ongoing contributions to WikiTree and the Australia Project, they are much appreciated!

It's time for the One Place Studies Project Check-In!

We've put together a survey for you to fill out to check in with you, it will only take a moment as there are only a few questions. Filling out the survey lets us know you are still interested in coordinating your study and provides an opportunity for you to share any suggestions you may have for the project.

If you have decided to step away from your study, please reply to this comment to that effect.

Welcome to The Military and War Project! https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Military_and_War This project is top level and covers many wars including War of 1812, French and Indian, Spanish American War, Mexican American War,World War I, World War II, Vietnam, Korean conflict, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Your note is interesting, and we have two Afghanistan Wars not just one?? Is your Space page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:1842_Retreat_from_Kabul part of the 1st Afghanistan war?

Also we use the Military and War Google Group for communication. This is the link. https://groups.google.com/g/wikitree-military-and-war You are approved for it as of just now. For this you can answer postings, or you can post a new topic from the above link,

Many thanks Mary.

The 1842 Retreat from Kabul page is associated with the first First Anglo-Afghan War see Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Anglo-Afghan_War. There were three Anglo-Afghan wars and then Wikipedia lists other wars too:

  • British-Afghan Wars
    • First Anglo-Afghan War (1839–1842)
    • Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878–1880)
    • Siege of Malakand & Tirah Campaign (1897)
    • Third Anglo-Afghan War (1919)
    • Operation Herrick (War in Afghanistan; November 2001 – December 2014)
    • Operation Toral (War in Afghanistan; December 2014 – August 2021)
  • American-Afghan War
    • Operation Enduring Freedom (November 2001 – December 2014)
    • Operation Freedom's Sentinel (December 2014 – August 2021)

Plus a less anglo-centric view listed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Afghanistan

The category Category:War_in_Afghanistan is a sub category of Wars 2000-2009 and Wars 2010- , is it OK if I expand it to be a sub cat of other periods, eg Category:Wars_1800-1899 and also link Category:First_Anglo-Afghan_War to it? It took me a bit to find Category:First_Anglo-Afghan_War as I had expected to find it under Category:War_in_Afghanistan

Just remember, our categories are not necessarily overlapping Wikipedia, since we are a global family tree with profiles of people. Our upper level war categories in Military and War are not subcategorized with every operation the way it's done in Wikipedia. Categories group profiles (both person profiles and free-space profiles) and are not labels or tags and we create categories as needed for use on profiles. Normally, for wars, the person profiles are categorized by units they served or countries they served. The actual war categories are usually mid-level and should not group profiles unless the unit the person served in is not known or not determined.

As I said in g2g, feel free to email me. These things should also be discussed in the Military and War google group, as Mary pointed out.

Regards, Natalie

Hi Anne, I'm just reading the info on the Roslin castle rename request, it says, "it joined the 203-ton barque Guardian on the 17th", I'm reading that as saying the regiment joined the ship "Guardian" for the voyage to VDL?? Regards, Margaret
Hi Margaret. Possibly, makes sense. I cannot work it out from Trove. For example one of the Hobart newspapers reported the 39th regiment was leaving for India on the Roslyn Castle. Perhaps though they were reporting Sydney news, it wasn’t really clear.

Thanks for looking at it.

Thank you so much for signing up with the Toddlin' Tortoises in the January 2023 Connect-a-Thon. We may be slower than many, but we are all still winners!

Hi Anne

It's time for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. Thank you so much for contributing to the project and Australian profiles on WikiTree during the last year. We really appreciate you!

If you would like to stay in the project, please reply to this message or send me a private message to let us know that you would like to stay on. Alternatively, if your WikiTree and research interests have moved away from Australia, please let us know and we can remove you from the membership list for the moment. You will, of course, be very welcome to rejoin the project down the track whenever you want to.

We are also keen to know if you want to make any changes to the team or teams that you want to focus on. Take a look on Australia Project Teams to see what teams there are to choose from. If you want to discuss this, or have any questions or suggestions about the Australia Project we'd love to hear your ideas.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to us!

Two tortoises, Hertyl and Spertyl, dressed in their spiffy Connect-a-Thon Tuxedo coats, the one on the left holding a top hat in "hand", and the one on the right with a glass of champagne. Between them is a multi-carriage wood or coal burning steam train, near the wheels of which are the words "slow train". Above the train is the WikiTree DNA tree logo, across which are the words "Wonderful WikiTreer". Floating above the logo are the words "Toddlin' Tortoises", and at the bottom of the image is the phrase "We're all winners in the end" — because we are. All winners.

Hi Anne!

Thanks for contributing to Puritan Great Migration profiles over the last six months. Every little bit helps, so please keep those edits coming!

Like all WikiTree projects we check in with team members twice per year and it's that time again. Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  1. If you'd like to continue as a PGM project team member
  1. If you're happy with the team you're on (Research and/or Profile Improvement) or if you'd like to make a change
  2. Optionally, what you like since the reboot back in May or what you think could be improved. This could be something about Discord, or Google Groups, or managed profile spreadsheets, or challenge participation or really anything. If you like everything the way it is, you can let me know that too :)

If you'd like to tell me about a particular project or family you're working on, I'd love to hear about that as well.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks!

Comments have been added to the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Eureka_Rebellion page (that you may like to read over).

A part of the discussion I opened up as a G2G question & that got some powerful responses, such as this link. This link gives us an accurate list (names) of soldiers present at Eureka from 12th Regiment of foot.

http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~twelthregiment/military/12th_Regiment_All_Soldiers_Details.pdf

It also tells us the soldier J Hall who was killed was John Hall of the 12th Reg of foot.

Hello Anne

The Australia Project leadership team are carrying out a check-in to see how you are going in the project and especially to thank you for all your work on Australian profiles on WikiTree. We really value your participation.

Please could you get back to me by private message to let me know if you are happy with your current role and team involvement within the project or if you would like to do something additional or different. Currently we have you down as the team leader for the Eureka Stockade team. If you would like a change, you can check on the Australia Project page to see what other options there are.

It would also be great to hear any feedback and any suggestions that you have to improve the project. On a practical note, if you are a member of the google group, are you receiving messages ok?
