Adam Yager Sr has German Roots.

Biography

Adam Yager Sr was a Virginia colonist.

Adam was born September 30,1708^[1] in Falkenstein, Rhineland, Prussia. Adam's parent's came to the Colonies when Adam was approximately nine years old. They had planned to go to Pennsylvania but weather altered their course and they went to Virginia and became the second colony for Governor Spotswood.

There were twenty families in the second colony. Adam signed the founding constitution of the Hebron Lutheran Church. Adam and his wife were lifelong members of the church

Adam married Susanna Kobler in October 1727 at Germanna.^[2]

Adam freed two of his slaves, Tom and Lucy.

Adam Yager died on January 23, 1794, in Madison, Virginia, when he was 85 years old and was buried in the Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery.^[1]

Adam was given Naturalization with his father Nicholas.

Alexander Spottswood, His Majesty's Lieutenant-Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia.

To all to whom these Presents shall come, Greeting :

Whereas, by an Act of Assembly made at the Capitol the twenty-third day of October, 1705, for the better settling and peopling of this His Majesty's colony and dominion, it is enacted that it shall and may be lawful to and for the Governor or Commander-in-Chief of this colony and dominion for the time being, by a public instrument or letters patent under the broad seal thereof, to declare and alien or aliens, foreigner or foreigners, being already settled or inhabitants of this colony, or which shall hereafter come to settle, plant, or reside therein, upon his or their taking the oaths therein prescribed, to be to all intents and purposes fully and completely naturalized; and that all persons having such public instrument or letters patent shall by virtue of the said Act have and enjoy, to them and their heirs, the same immunities and rights of and unto the laws of this colony and dominion as fully and amply as any of His Majesty's natural-born subjects have or enjoy within the same, and as if they had been born within any of His Majesty's realms and dominions; provided, that nothing herein contained shall be construed to enable or give power or privilege to any foreigner to do or execute any matter or thing which, by any of these Acts made in England concerning His Majesty's plantations, he is disabled to do or execute:

And Nicholas Yager, native of Wickersbach in Hesse (?), having settled and inhabited for several years in the County of Spotsylvania in this colony, and now made application to me for the benefit of naturalization, and before me taken the oaths prescribed by law and subscribed to the test; I do therefore, pursuant to the said authority, hereby declare the said Nicholas Yager to be to all intents and purposes fully and completely naturalized, and to have and enjoy to him and his heirs the same immunities and rights of and unto the laws and privileges of this colony as fully and amply as any of His Majesty's natural-born subjects have or enjoy within the same, and as if he had been born within any of His Majesty's realms and dominions, according to the aforesaid Act; saving always in such matters and things which by the laws of England concerning the plantations he is disabled to do or execute.

Given under my hand and the seal of the colony this 13th day of July, 1722, in the eighth year of His Majesty's reign.

Note. — Adam Yager was six years old when his father, Nicholas Yager , emigrated from Germany to America. ^[3]

Marriage

Adam Yager was the son of Nicholas Yager. All of the descendants of Nicholas Jäger/Yager are through Adam. Adam is said to have married Susannah Kabler, the sister of Frederick Kabler. Descendants of Adam's sister Mary if any are unknown. It's not known if Mary died young. ^[4]

Will

Will Book 1, p.24-27 Madison Co, VA: "In the name of God amen I, Adam Yager, of the county of Madison being in perfect mind and memory, but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner of form following. First recommending my soul to almighty God assuredly hoping and trusting for eternal salvation through the merits of sufferings of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ. As of touching my worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with, I leave and give in manner of form following: First my will and desire is that my two old negros, Tom and Lucy shall be set at liberty. Neither of my children nor any other person to claim any right in or to them. All the estate that I have heretofore given to any of my children that they are or have been in possession of I do not consider as my estate, but theirs to whom it was given. I give to my four sons, Michael, John, Adam and Godfrey all my books to be equally divided between them by lot or other ways as they may agree. I bequeath to my son Godfrey Yagar all the land of plantation whereon I now live containing by patent one hundred acres together with sixty one acres I bought of Nelson to him, his forever. I also give to my son Godfrey any horse or mare I shall be possessed with at my death, as also my best saddle and bridle. I give unto my daughter Barbara Chelf the bed and furniture whereon I lay to her and her heirs forever. All the residue of my estate both real and personal my will it shall be sold but no person shall be allowed to bid but my four sons, Michael, John, Adam and Godfrey, and my two grandsons Adam Clore and Benjamin Yager and the money arising from the sale to be divided into six parts and my four sons before named or in case of their death their legal representatives to have four of the six parts. My grandchildren the heirs of Nicholas Yager deceased one other part. My other grandchildren the heirs of Pete Clore begotten by my daughter Barbara the other part of the said parts so given to my said grandchildren, shall be paid into the hands of Adam Clore and Benjamin Yager to be by them paid to their brothers and sisters as before directed as they shall come of age or marry. Whereas my granddaughter Elizabeth Hayman, daughter of Peter and Barbara Clore is dead. My will and desire is that Adam Clore shall pay the part would fall unto to her children as they shall come of age or marry. In case any of my grand children, either the children of Nicholas Yager or the children of Pete Clore shall die before they come of age or shall marry, that their part shall be divided between the r surviving brothers and sisters. But in order that my executors hereafter named shall not be distressed, I allow them eighteen months to pay any legacy I have here given. My executors hereafter named, should they judge it would be to their interest may suffer other bidders at the sale of my estate. I do hereby appoint and nominate my four sons, Michael Yager, John Yager, Adam Yager and Godfrey Yager to be executors of this my last will land testament revoking all other wills by me heretofore made in testamony whereof I have hereunto placed my hand and seal this ninth day of September 1793." "Signed, sealed, published and declared to be his last will and testament in presents of John Smith, Joseph Carpenter , Cornelius Carpenter.^[5]
