Mary Dismukes was born about 1729. She is the daughter of James Dismukes.[1]
James Yarbrough married Mary Dismukes in Caroline County, Virginia.[1] James and Mary ran an Ordinary, a tavern, in Caroline County, Virginia. At a court held for Caroline County on the 10th day of September 1767, on the motion of James Yarbrough his ordinary license is renewed [and] bond acknowledged according to law.[2]
James Dismukes of St. Margaret's Parish, Caroline County set is hand and seal to his Last Will and Testament on the 21st day of January 1769 making a bequest to my daughter Mary, wife of James Yarbrough, one Negro woman named Dinah, Amey and a boy Gabriel her children and their increase also fifty pounds current money to be raised out of my estate.[1]
James Yarbrough died before the 11th of May 1777. On that date, by a motion of Mary Yarbrough, Administration was granted her on the Estate of Jas. Yarbrough Dec'd. Oath Administration Bond was acknowledged & c Abram Wilson, Robt. Tompkins, Jos. Tompkins & Wm. Higgins or any 3 were appointed appraisers.[3]
The 1782 Caroline County, Virginia Land Tax List alterations recorded William Almond from Mary Yarbrough 330 acres.[4] The 1784 Personal Property Tax List for Caroline County recorded:
Yarbrough, James - 1 male over 21 - 1 Negro under 16 - 2 horses - 6 cattle
Yarbrough, Joell - 1 male over 21 - 2 Negroes under 16 - 2 horses - 7 cattle[5]
Based on the fact Mary Yarbrough was recorded on the 1782 list, it appears that James and Joel were perhaps sons. Mary's deceased spouse, James Yarbrough, had a brother, Henry Yarbrough, in Caroline County, but he did not have a son named James or Joel.

Her son, Benj'm. Yarbrough, of Caroline County, Virginia set his hand and seal to his Last Will and Testament on the 10th day of December 1795 making a special bequest to my Mother one half of lands during her natural life, and at her decease to return to my brother Charles, and in case my Brother Charles should die without heir, two thirds to Mr. Almond's children which he had by my mother.[7] The will was recorded on the 2nd day of May 1800.
Mary Dismuke Yarbrough Almond died after May 1800. William Almond was taxed in Caroline County until 1807 when his land was transferred to Pleasant Winston.[8] Pleasant Winston's child was noted as Benjamin Yarbrough's nephew in his will.[7]
