If he, Michael, was born in Caroline County, Virginia 1784 and then married in Bourbon County, Kentucky 1809 it was a 485 mile trek across the Appalachian Mountains. His bride, Rachel Briggs was born in Culpepper County, Virginia, which is 57.2 miles northwest of Caroline County.

Don't know IF this is important but it is VERY INTERESTING...

1809 they were married in Bourbon County and then 19 miles away is Fayette County where there is a census for Michael Yates in 1820, but the only MALE listed is +45, his father???/a female "to 45"

And then 1830 they moved 92.6 miles to Adair County, Kentucky where they lived the rest of their lives... (as far as we can find)

In 1840 Michael would be 56 years old so THIS Census record COULD BE them...

Rachel would be 55, and there are marks in those columns..........
