Biography

Ellen Yaxley was born in 1846 in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England to William Yaxley and Martha (Wise) Yaxley. Her birth was registered in Cirencester in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Wise.[1]

In 1851 Ellen Yaxley (age 5, Scholar) lived at Cricklade Street in Cirencester with her father William (32, Cabinet Maker) and mother Martha (31).[2]

In 1861 Ellen Yarsley [Yaxley] (age 15, Scholar) lived at Cricklade Street in Cirencester with her father William (42, Cabinet Maker), mother Martha (41), brother Thomas (9, Scholar), and sister Mary (6, Scholar).[3]

Ellen's father passed away in 1865: "29 November. The Will of William Yaxley late of Cirencester in the County of Gloucester Innkeeper deceased who died 22 February 1865 at Cirencester aforesaid was proved at Gloucester by the oath of William Hinton of Cirencester aforesaid Turner one of the Executors. Effects under £100."[4]

In 1871 Ellen Yaxley (age 25, Dressmaker) lived in Cirencester with her widowed mother Martha (51, Innkeeper), brother Thomas (19, Cabinet Maker), and sister Mary (16, Milliner).[5]

Ellen Yaxley married William Woolls in 1872. The marriage was registered in Cirencester in the third quarter of the year.[6]

Ellen and William had four children:

  1. Charles Woolls (1873-1955)
  2. Martha Ellen (Woolls) Wait (1875-1948)
  3. Sarah Annie Woolls (1877-1956)
  4. William Woolls (1881-1952)

In 1881 Ellen Woolls (age 36) lived in South Cerney, Gloucestershire with her husband William (52, Farmer) and three children: Charles (7, Scholar), Ellen (6, Scholar), and Annie (4).[7]

In 1891 Ellen Woolls (age 46) lived at Charlam Lane in Ampney St Peter, Gloucestershire with her husband William (62, Retired Farmer) and three children: Ellen (16), Annie (13), and William (9).[8] Their son Charles (17, Farmers Son) lived at Upper Up in South Cerney.

In 1901 Ellen Wools (age 55) lived in Ampney St Peter with her husband William (73, Retired Butcher & Farmer), daughter Sarah A (23), and boarder Beatrice L Ambrose (21, School Teacher Assistant).[9]

Ellen's husband passed away in 1908.

Ellen Woolls passed away in 1910, aged 63 years. Her death was registered in Bridgend, Glamorganshire in the second quarter of the year.[10] Ellen Woolls of 12 Charles St B End was buried in Coity, Glamorgan in 1910.[11]
