Disputed Parents

There's no evidence that Alice, the second wife of Richard Hull, was the daughter of Sir Thomas Yeard of Denton. A Find-a-Grave memorial making the claim is unsourced because there are no sources to support it. The same memorial misstates Richard Hull's name and dates of birth/death and invents 2 grandchildren for Alice.

In fact, Alice's surname at birth is unrecorded.

Biography

Richard Hull had 4 children when Alice married him in about 1549: William, Thomas, Elynor, and Raynold, aged roughly from 9 to 13. [1][2] Alice and Richard had 3 children; all were born and died in Crewkerne, Somerset:

  1. James Hull, born about 1550; died 27 July 1567 [3]
  2. Thomas Hull, the Younger, born about 1552; buried 29 Dec 1636 [4][5]
  3. John Hull, born about 1554; buried 3 Nov 1588 [6]

Alice's stepson Thomas was likely only about 12 when her second son was born and named ... Thomas. Hence the need for a Thomas, the Elder, and a Thomas, the Younger, within a single generation.

Alice outlived Richard. She made her will on 12 Oct 1577 in Crewkerne. She died a decade later. Her will was proved 25 Nov 1587. The inventory totaled 3 pounds, 12 shillings and 2 pence.

Alice did not name Richard's 4 oldest children in her will, although at least Thomas, the Elder, and Raynold were alive in 1577 when she wrote it. This adds to the evidence that these 2 older children were her stepchildren from Richard's first wife, whose full name has been lost to time. The abstract of Alice Hull's will is recorded in the Archdeaconry of Taunton, England.[7][8]

There was a bad merge done a few months ago. Richard Hull's first wife -- name unknown -- was wrongly merged into his second wife Alice -- surname unknown. It appears that the father of Alice should be detached and her LNAB should be changed to "Unknown," and another profile should be created for Richard's first wife (mother of his first three children).
