John Yeaton Sr is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A129542.

Biography

John Yeaton was born February 21, 1742, in Falmouth, York county, Maine District of Massachusetts Bay Colony. During the American Revolutionary War, John enlisted as a private in Captain Francis Shaw's company. He also served under Captain Henry Dyer, and Colonels John Allen, and Benjamin Foster, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Pension #R11935V was filed for his service, but was rejected, "as there was no provision of law, under which children were entitled." (This assumes that his wife, Sarah Dyer, was already deceased at the time of the filing. [1]

Sergeant John Yeaton is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revoluion as DAR Ancestor #A129542. DAR records give his residence as Plantation number 4, in Lincoln county, Maine District, Massachusetts and also Machias, LIncoln county, Maine District, Massachusetts. His date of death is October 4, 1832, in Steuben, Washington county, Maine. Note: Maine's complicated road to statehood culminated on March 15, 1820, when the district separated from Massachusetts and was accepted as the twenty-third state in the Union.

Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his sons, Samuel Yeaton, who married Merrill Dunbar, and Lemuel Yeaton, whose wife, Abigail's maiden name is not known; and of his daughters, Sarah Yeaton, who married Asa Dyer; and Abigail Yeaton, who married Jesse Plumer.
