Biography

George was born in Perth Center, Fulton county, New York on 10 January 1848. He was the son of James and Sarah Fry Young. He grew up in Perth Center[1][2][3][4] until he joined the army for the War of the Rebellion, probably in 1865 at age 18. He enlisted in Company B of the 2nd New York Heavy Artillery and served until the end of the war.[5]

In 1869, George married Mary Etta Weldon and they had ten children. Two died in infancy; Julia in 1872 and Stella in 1883. The other eight children were; Cora Baird, Mary Smith Drinkwine, Annie Soper, Ella Reynolds Garland, Charles, James, Ethel Judd and Jessie Quance. They lived in Johnstown in Fulton county, New York, in 1870.[6] George was working as a kid dresser.
By 1875, they and their two oldest daughters had moved to Highwater in Cottonwood county of Minnesota.[7]
In 1880, they were living in the same county, but had moved to Germantown township.[8]
In 1885 they had four daughters and one son living with them in Sauk Center township of Stearns county, Minnesota.[9]
They moved again and were living in Redwood county, Minnesota in 1890, where George was recorded in the Census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War,[10] and was there in 1895,[11] and 1900.[12]
By 1905 they had moved to Todd county, and lived in Turtle Creek township.[13]
In 1910 they lived with their youngest son and daughter, James and Jessie, in Moran township of Todd county.[14]

George Young passed away on 3 January 1927 in Staples of Todd county, Minnesota. [15] His body was buried in the Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.[16]
