Biography

Margaret Young is the daughter of Charles Francis Young and Sarah Morris.

Kanawha Co Marriage Records compiled by Julia Wintz lists John Garred and Margaret Young m. 1822 . Abraham Jarrett and several Young families were among those families who settled on the Elk River in the early days of settlement.

Based on death records of John Jarrett showing a probable wife Margaret in 1829 leads me to think this is John Jarrett son of Abraham. Although he died intestate, we can discern that he lived in the Elk Creek area (near his father Abraham and his uncle Owen) by those men chosen to appraise his property and those listed in his estate sale bill. Owen was appointed his administrator. Margaret Jarrett was the only female listed in the sale bill, buying various domestic furnishings, typical of other estates where widows bought back items they used most.

With the 1822 marriage record and the Margaret mention in John's estate settlement, I have put them together for the time being. This is further supported by the possible middle name of one their two sons, John Y. Jarrett, the Y standing for Young.

Based on the will of John's father and other records, it appears that Margaret and John had 3 children: William, Eliza (the wife of Squire G. Jarrett, Jr.) and John Y. Jarrett.

What happened to Margaret after John's death or when she died has not been discovered.

Young-12542 and Young-270 appear to represent the same person because: same spouse. More likely the earlier birthdate given the births of her children
