Biography

Cassie Adelaide Young was born to Amos Westbrook Young and Minnie Almira (Dunbar) Young on 20 April 1900 in East Machias, Maine. [1]

Cassie and Asa John Bagley were married 28 February 1918 in East Machias, Maine. [2]

Asa and Cassie separated and Cassie had a job taking care of Mr Rice's wife. She died and Cassie had a wonderful relationship with Mr Rice. There are photos on Mainegeneaology site from Junior Libby. He knew her when he was a child. I don't know if there was a divorce. Her son Leslie did not live to adulthood. Her son Norman is still in Machias, ME the last of her children. She is buried in Greenwood Cemetery - I think next to Rice. [3]

Cassie and Bernard Rice were never officially married, though they had as close as a common marriage as you can get. Cassie lived at the Rice farmstead off route 192 in Northfield, Maine for over 18 years as a live in girlfriend of Bernard Rice. She was at Etta May Burns Rice's bedside as she battled cancer and died. Cassie was also at the bedside of Clyde Garvey Rice as he became bed ridden and later died. And though over the years the two talked about getting married one day, Cassie was still legally married to Asa J. Bagley and they never did get married. It is close to Bernard Rice's grave where Cassie lies buried, in the Northfield Cemetery. All the time I spent on the Rice farmstead over the years Cassie's children often dropped by to visit with her and Bernard, including Arlene Bagley and her husband Porter Kilton Jr, who we simply called Bud. Cassie always smiled, had a soft low voice, and was thin to the point of being frail looking.

Cassie died of cancer 22 November 1968. She is buried in Northfield Cemetery in Northfield, Maine. [4]
