Biography

Birth and Parentage

One of three children of Richard Young, Sr, and his wife Sarah Leigh. The known dates bracketing the Young family are Sarah's birth in 1627 and her marriage to Sampson Waring in 1648. Between these dates, her marriage to Richard Young, Sr, the birth of three children, and the death of Richard Young, Sr, needed to take place. The resulting calculation is that the marriage would have taken place no later than 1643, the three children born about 1644, 1645 and 1646, and the death of Richard Young, Sr in 1647. As a result:

  1. Richard Young, born Virginia abt 1644
  2. William Young, born Virginia abt 1645
  3. Eliza Young, born Virginia abt 1646

The family would then have been positioned to join the migration of Puritans from Virginia to Maryand in 1649-1650. The Young children grew up in the household of their mother Sarah Leigh, and her second husband, Sampson Waring.

The three Young children are identified in Sampson Waring's entry in The Biographical Disctionary of the Maryland Legislature. [1]

1665 Death and Will

Richard Young died before 4 April 1665, when his will was proved. He was apparently unmarried, as he divided his estate equally among his full siblings William and Eliza, and his half-brother Basil Waring.
