Was George the son of Richard Young and Sarah Leigh?

While there is no documentation of it, many genealogies show George to be a child of Richard Young and Sarah Leigh. The difficulty with this is that Richard died while his children were very young, and his three children, were raised by Sampson Waring, who acted as their father and included them in his legal documents, will, etc. These records contain no record of a George, suggesting that his real parentage must lie elsewhere.

Is there a good theory regarding George's first wife?

Cavanagh states, "a good candidate for this marriage would ge a daughter of Henry Kent of Calvert County, who made his will 29 April 1685 / proved 6 March 1681, leaving his wife Thomasin and three daughters Eliza, Mary, and a third unnamed who was then 16 yhears of age. George Young, Sr., alolng with Francis Freeman and Captain Francis Mauldsing, were executors of this will. Test:L John Hance and Robert Freeman. Thomasin Viney, relect of Henry Kent of Calvert County, was granted administratgion i\on his estate (TP 131:332) and at the same time 30 April court session 1686, Thomasin Viney was granted administration on the estate of Henry Viney of Calvert County and ehibited inventories for both of her former husbands, 30 June 1686 (Henry Kent, Calvert, tP 14:357) and 10 July 1686 (Henry Kent, Calvert, TP 13:373). At the provincial court of 14 A;pril 1694, the bond of George Young (indicating a faily connection) administrator of Thoasiin Viney, was echibitedd with security by William Williams. [19]

Were There Other Young Families in Calvert County, Maryland?

In the mid 1600's in Maryland there were several Young families which may or may not be interrelated:

  • Richard Young was born about 1600, presumably in England. He married Sarah Leigh, and died before 1648, when she married Sampson Waring. Sampson Waring then raised his Richard's three children, Richard, William and Eliza.
  • George Young was born abt 1643. Some genealogies claim he was a son of Richard, but there is no record of George among Richard's children who were raised by Sampson Waring. George married Elizabeth Rousby and had a daughter Anne Young.
  • Arthur Young, born about 1660, and married Ann Waring. The key question is who Ann's parents were, and how/whether they relate to Sampson Waring. Did two separate families both contain Waring - Young alliances?
  • Lawrence Young (1665-1722) lived in Somerset County.
