Biography

Charles Norman Young was born on the 8th of April 1881 ^[1]at Bishopwearmouth in County Durham, son of William Young and his wife, Emily Brown.^[2] Hs birth was registered in Sunderland. ^[3] His father was a painter and decorator but Charles trained as a joiner. ^[4]

In 1908 he married Adeline Maud Metcalf. ^[5] They made their home at Shakespeare Terrace in Sunderland where Adeline was fortunate to have a domestic servant. ^[6]

They were still living at Shakespeare Terrace at the outbreak of the Second World War and Charles was offering his services as an undertaker as well as a joiner. ^[1]

Charles died in 1958 aged 77. ^[7]
