Biography

John Young, the son of John and Anne Young, was baptised 6 September 1740 in Charlton Mackrell, Somerset. [1]

John was married to Mrs. Ann Hill on May 3rd 1762 in Sturminster Newton, Dorset. Ann died 9 months later on 16 Feb 1763. [2] His home was in Charlton Horethorne.

John inherited from his father, though the lands were not specified in his father's will. The will did grant him the rents issues and profits of his father's leasehold estates for the remainder of his leasehold term.[3] He leased over 91 acres of property in Charlton Horethorne effective 6 Apr 1767 from Edward Walter.[4]

John made a will in 1814 and died in 1815. John’s estate was entailed upon the heirs of Susanna L Barrett (Mrs. Samuel Bown) and her son Samuel. It included a farm and lands containing approximately 44 acres of pasture and orchard land in Horsington and Grove Farm in North Cheriton containing about 80 acres of pasture partly in Wincanton parish. [5] In the will the Rev. George Uppill is mentioned as a debtor and John's niece Ann Uppill to receive a bequest. Other bequests were to Abigail Field wife of John Field, Mary Ann and Thomas and John Barrett who were children of Caleb Barrett, Anna Maria Burge and Mary Symes; all of whom were relatives.

John died 4 July 1814 and was buried at Sturminster Newton, Dorset. [6]
