William was the right age, and born in the right place, to have been a son of John Young of Augusta County. John's 1780 will definitely lists a son William (together with sons John, James and Robert).
“There was a William Young living in Augusta County that was born shortly after the year 1702 according to the following entry in Chalkley .... William Anderson vs. William Young-O. S. 17; N. S. 6--Answer filed 29th November, 1802, Augusta. William Young (stated in answer) is near one hundred years old.”[1]
William's presumed son Henry named sons William, Robert and John, as did William's presumed brother John.
Henry and John Young, of Spartanburg County, South Carolina, presumed sons of this William Young, both named their eldest sons William; the customary practice in Scottish families was for a man to name his eldest son for his father. John Young died in 1807 n Spartanburg County. Two of his grandsons (surnamed Dillingham) were executors for the will of Henry Young, probated in 1833 in Caldwell County, Kentucky.
