Biography
Mary "Polly" Young is the daughter of George Newton Young and Rachel (Rowland) Young. Polly married Jacob Shults and migrated west by wagon train. [1]
Children of Polly and Jacob are:
- Rachel Rowland Shults, born 1826, died 1870, in Salem, married Thomas Jefferson Stagner
- Roseanne Shults, born December 28, 1830, died March 9, 1903, married George Hendricks Stagner
- Malinda Jane Shults, born August 28, 1832, died April 29, 1915, in Iron County, Missouri, married John Carney
- Francis Marion Shults, born August 9, 1836, died May 13, 1914, in Salem, Missouri, married Levina Wampler
- Mary Ann Shults, born April 9, 1839, died June 9, 1929, in Greene County, Illinois, married Edmond Edward Carey
- Joseph Young Shults, born July 14, 1842, in Osage, Missouri, died October 12, 1900
Polly died in 1848, killed by lighting, at her home three miles southwest of Salem, Dent County, Missouri. Jacob left the area and his sisters raised their children. Polly is buried in the Hasten-Hill Cemetery, in Dent County, Missouri. [2]
