Biography

Nathan Young was born January 22, 1713/4, the son of Nathan Young and Rebecca Shaw of Eastham[1][2][3][4]

In 1738, he married Mary Atwood (1718-1769) , the daughter of Joseph Atwood and Bethia Crowell of Eastham.[5][3][6][7][8][9] Their intention to marry was published August 29, 1738[10][11][12]

Their children included:

  1. Shaw, born circa 1744, who married Mercy Sears and died in Albany NY[3]
  2. Bethia, born August 26, 1746, who married Ebenezer Rider and emigrated from NY to New Brunswick[3]
  3. William, born March 13, 1749, who married Elizabeth Chapman, and who died in Long Island[3]
  4. Elkanah, born 1751, who married Huldah Crosby and who died in Deerpark NY[3]
  5. Mary, born circa 1753[3]

Nathan died before March 1, 1763, when his brother-in-law Nathaniel Atwood was appointed guardian of his children[3] Langlois observed that this occurred the day following the guardianship of his brother Elkanah's children, leading to the theory that the brothers died together, possibly at sea.

He may be buried in Cove Burying Ground, Eastham, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.[13]
