Jim L. Zimmerman, age 74, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at South Wind Hospice Home in Pratt. He was born Feb. 2, 1937 south of Protection, to Harry and Rosa Ellen (Nutter) Zimmerman. Jim married Lelanne Wiltshire on Aug. 13, 1980 in Great Bend. He attended both Mennonite and public grade schools in Protection and graduated from Protection High School in 1955. While going to college, he worked at Dillons in Hutchinson and later became manager of Dillons stores in Topeka and Arkansas City. When he moved to Pratt, Jim ran the Zimmerman Dairy and worked in the oilfields. He worked for the First United Methodist Church in Pratt for 25 years and was owner of Zimmerman Lawn Service. In recent years Jim was pastor of the Second Baptist Church in Pratt. Jim loved His Lord Jesus, and was always happy and thankful for an opportunity to share the Gospel. He enjoyed leading a youth group in the past and went on mission trips to Haiti and Mexico. Jim is survived by his wife Lelanne; three sons, Tony (Priscilla) Zimmerman of Pratt, Nicholas (Fayemarie) Zimmerman of Liberal, and Mickey (Stephanie) Zimmerman of Manhattan; three daughters, Shelly (James) French of Hugoton, Shawnna (Trow) Shuck of Liberal and Jamie (Cody) Spurgeon of Satana; a brother, Frank Zimmerman of Tucson, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 24th at the First Southern Baptist Church in Pratt. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
