In a notice posted in the Western Christian Advocate in October 1915, it notes that J.W. attended a family reunion for the John F Zimmermann family of Lexington, Kentucky. "... the following survivors out of a family of nine were present, named according to age: the Rev J.W. Zimmerman, of Dayton, Ky; Mr D. N. Zimmerman and Mrs E. E. Hardesty, of Lexington, and Mrs. Cattie F. Mettee of Baltimore, Md. Their aggregate ages make the sum of 271 years."
In 1870, they are living in Augusta, Bracken Co, Kentucky, with one child, David J, born about 1864. JW lists his occupation as Clergyman (Methodist).
In 1880, they are living in Danville, in Boyle County, Kentucky. They have two children, a son James born about 1863, and a daughter Nolene, born about 1871. John, with partner David A Murphy, is the publisher and editor of the Danville Tribune newspaper established around 1880. John is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Campbell County, Kentucky.
