Annie was a widow ZIMMERMAN when she married Melchior SIMMEN in Hughestown PA in 1880. (Look for wedding record in Lutheran Church there.)

1880 census shows Melchior's wife is Annie & Melchior's children are all living with them, also a Julius ZIMMERMAN, stepson, age 23 = b. 1857, b. in Switzerland.

If she had a son b. 1857, she couldn’t have been born in 1845 — more likely at least 1840. Perhaps Julius was son of her first husband with a previous wife.

1900 census 9 June, Hughestown Boro, 47 Rail Road St., Luzerne Co, PA, p. 218: Melchior SIMMONS 56 coal miner b. March 1844 [?] Germany, m. 20 years to Annie 55 b. Jan 1845 Germany (actually Switzerland?), had 1 child, he living with them, son William R. SIMMONS 18 coal mine laborer, b. May 1882 in PA, parents both b. Germany.

1920 census 19 April, Hughestown Borough, 39 Rail Road St.: Anna SIMMONS 68 = b. 1842 living alone, had had 3 children, 2 still living, born Switzerland, year of immigration unknown, parents born Switzerland, no occupation.

Family lore says she was from around Basel, Switzerland, and that she & son Julius immigrated 1870s — with husband?.
