John (aka Nicholas) was born in 1759 in Pennsylvania. A twin, he was baptized on 16 Apr 1759 by Rev. George Michael Weiss, Sponsors: Nicolaus Seidel and his wife.
He is the son of Johann Zimmerman and Catherine Seidel. [1]
Nicholas is named in his father George Zimmerman's 1793 will and was one of the executors.[2]
In a biography of a descendant in Williams's History of Frederick County, John Nicholas Zimmerman is said to have been the owner of the first paper mills in Frederick County, Maryland.[3] This is supported by Nicholas's will, which names a property called "Paper Factory".
An 1843 equity court case over Nicholas's estate says that he died in 1826, and that his wife Elizabeth died in November 1842.[4] The case names these children of Nicholas and Elizabeth:
