Frederick was born in 1869. Fred passed away in 1950. [1]

His family immigrated in to the US 1878 from the Port of Bremen in West Prussia and landed in New York on June 29, 1878. Aboard the Ship MARIS with him were Mother Louisa (aged 32), Sister Maria(7) and Brother Albert (5) Zimmermann. His name is spelled "Friedrike". During the Federal Census conducted in June/July of 1880, Fred lived with his parents and siblings in Peoria, IL.

Frederick moved to Chicago prior to 1890 where he was a bricklayer for the next two decades. They are found at several addresses in Chicago, including April 1903 (Walter's Birth and Death Certificates) finds them at 856 Wellington Avenue. Directories and censuses during that time show him gradually heading from south to north in the city. He then moved his family to Los Angeles by 1909. One known residential address in Los Angeles was 1327 Neola Avenue.

By 1920, Fred was back in Chicago; by 1930 he was back to Los Angeles where he resided until his death.

Fred died in the Los Angeles General Hospital in 1950, having outlived both his wife and his eldest son, Bruno. Fred's cremains are in a columbarium with his wife, Elizabeth, in Forest Lawn Cemetery in LA. Stated religion at time of death was Episcopal. The remains of their youngest son, Peter, are also in that crypt.
