There is a brief biography for Lorentz, written in German, in the family records of the Lower Bermudian Congregation, which names his children. Translated highlights:

  • Lorentz Alberth born 1719 in Loewenstein Wertheim (Altfeld, Lowenstein, Wertheim) near Heilbronn.
  • Immigration: arrived in Philadelphia aboard the ship Phoenix, qualified 1 Oct 1754, named as Lorentz Alberth. On the same ships list is a Johannes Alberth and a Wilhelm Albert

Research Notes

Info about his father Lorentz, from a letter from a parish priest:

  • Lorentz was born in 22 Oct 1719
  • He settled in Huntington Township, York (now Adams) County Pa, where he was a member of the Lower Bermudian church
  • 6 Jun 1747, Lorentz Albert married Anna Barbara Wolf, daughter of Johan Adam and Barbara Wolf of Oberwittbach.
  • He emigrated in 1754 because he could no longer make a living as a plow maker, because, "every farmer now makes his own plow himself."
  • Will of Lawrence Albert of Huntington Township 25 Oct 1792 mentions grandson Lawrence Heigis, daughter Margaret Heigis, the deceased widow of Lawrence Heigis. Other children are Andrew, Jacob, John, and Appolonia Herman, wife of George Herman

Supposedly, there is a son, Jacob, who sold his share of the land he received from his father in 1806 and moved to Baltimore. There, he established a hardware business and accumulated a small fortune. Jacob was the father of William Albert, who became a U.S. Congressman, serving the 5th district of Maryland (1873-1875).

Below is probably a line through Lorentz's son Andrew. [3] ALBERT, LAWRENCE. From Wurtzbeg, Bavaria to America 1752 [?], settled in York Co. PA. Descendant Jacob Albert to Baltimore 1805, hardware business. Jacob's son, Hon. William J. Albert, Congressman born in Baltimore 1816. Married Emily Jones.

"William Julian Albert, the third son of Jacob & Rebecca Albert, was born in Baltimore August 4, 1916. He is of German descent, his GREAT-GRANDFATHER, Lawrence Albert, having emigrated from Wurzburg, Bavaria, to America in 1752[?][1754] settling in Monhagen township, York County, Pennsylvania.......The original estate still remains in the possession of the family...............Jacob the father of the the subject finding an agricultural life unsuited..... moved to Baltimore in 1805..with capital provided by his father embarked in the hardware business, ....in which he accumulated a large fortune.[4]
