Research Notes
Spelling of last name
The accepted spelling of the descendants of his daughter Elizabeth has been Alison as used in the book compiled by W. R. Sanders and as used as the middle name for various descendants. (Including Joseph's granddaughter, Mary A. Sanders, and his 2x great grandson Robert Boy)
The headstone erected as some point by B.J.R. (R.J.R.?) & J.M. Allison uses the Allison spelling. J.M. Allison may refer to his son Joseph Milton.
The 1850, 1860, and 1870 Censuses use the Allison spelling, the 1860 Agriculture Schedule uses the Alison spelling.
Any one else finding research information regarding how Joseph or his family members preferred the spelling of his last name, please add comments. Emily Holmberg
