MR. W. F. ALTMAN'S DEATH AT 98 YEARS The death of Mr. Wilhelm Frederick Altman, aged 98 years, took place at the home of his son in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. P. Wieland (Tarampa) on September 15. The late Mr. Altman was born at Prenzlau, Germany, on July 23, 1848. He fought in the Franco-Prussian war in 1868-1870. He married Miss Hannah Pittach and came to Australia with his wife and family in 1887. He worked for a time at Beenleigh. From there he went to Marburg, where he took up farming. Later he went to a farm at Glamorgan Vale. Sixteen years ago he moved to Tarampa to live with his daughter, Mrs. Wieland. He remained there until his death. Mrs. Altman died 14 years ago. Despite his great age the late Mr. Altman was able to move about. He had a wonderful memory and could relate stories of his younger days. He enjoyed reasonably good health until about a week before his death. He is survived by three daughters Mesdames E. Nitz (Laidley), W. Freese (Glamorgan Vale), and P.Wieland (Tarampa). There is one son, Mr. William Altman (Murgon). The late Mr. Altman left 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. The funeral left Mr. and Mrs. P. Wieland's residence for the Coolana Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Rhode officiated.
