Walter was born on 30 June 1857 in Geelong,Victoria, Australia to John & Margaret (Robson) Anderson, and was a very prominent person involved within the Pastoral Industry and managed numerous stations, including that of the renowned Fairburn family, at "Barcaldine Downs", "Delta", "Fairview" and "Crandon" stations. In 1911, after selling "Fairview" (purchased from Fairburns 1908), he bought the Central Hotel in Hughenden and wife Mary took it over as mine host, and Walter stayed on the land, the station "Delbessie"and was there until 1915, when he sold both the hotel and station, and selected property near Corfield, North Qld and named it "Burnside", a property still in existence. , Unfortunately, tragedy struck in 1916 where Walter was struck down with a virus infection and contracted pneumonia, subsequently passing away on 11/11/1916 (coincidently the same day as Remembrance Day).
